About the bursary

The BRUC Student Bursary provides financial assistance to support students experiencing financial hardship that may impact their ability to participate in study. The bursary is intended to assist with essential, study-related costs and to support students to continue engaging in their education.

This bursary is made possible through revenue generated by BRUC's external room hire activities.

How funding is offered

The bursary is offered through two main applications each year, aligned with the academic calendar.

A limited amount of funding is also available to support students experiencing exception or urgent circumstances outside of the main application rounds.

Funding is limited and subject to availability.

  • Round 1: Opens February 9th and closes March 2nd 2026
  • Round 2: Opens July 27th and closes August 17th 2026

How much support is available?

Bursary amounts vary depending on individual need and available funds.
Grants are typically modest in value and intended to assist with specific, essential study-related expenses.

Students may generally receive one standard bursary per year.

What can the bursary be used for?

The bursary may assist with essential costs that support participation in study, including:

  • Learning materials or equipment
  • Travel, fuel, or transport costs
  • Placement-related expenses
  • Other essential study-related costs

Exceptional or urgent support

Students experiencing exceptional or urgent financial hardship may apply for assistance outside the standard application rounds.

These applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis and are subject to available funds.

How applications are assessed

Applications are assessed competitivley based on:

  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Impact on the student's ability to participate in study
  • An average of 2 visits to campus per month over the last 6 months
  • Availability of funds
