BRUC Appointed Education Coordinator for Children's University Adelaide for Barossa

Barossa Regional University Campus is proud to step into a new role as the Education Coordinator for Children's University (CU) Adelaide for 2026, strengthening our commitment to widening participation and making higher education feel possible, visible, and achievable for all students.

CU is a global program that recognises and celebrates learning beyond the classroom. By participating in approved learning activities at designated Learning Destinations, students build curiosity, confident, and a sense of belonging in educational spaces, long before they need to make decisions about their future.

As Education Coordinator, BRUC will work with families and community partners to support the program in the region, ensuring students have meaningful opportunities s to engage with learning in ways that feel welcoming and relevant. BRUC will not be working with families/students from Angaston Primary School or Faith Lutheran College, as those schools are already part of the CU program and have their own specific site coordinators.

Why this matters

One of the most significant outcomes of CU is its impact on students who may not otherwise see higher education as "for them".
Currently, around 40% of students registered at BRUC are the first in their family to attend university. This statistic matters. For many young people, the absences of family experience with higher education can create uncertainty, low confidence, or a sense that university is out of reach.

Programs like CU help shift that narrative early by engaging with 5-14-year olds. It demystifies what university is, who it's for, and how students might one day belong there through positive, self-directed experiences of learning.

Widening participation through exposure and confidence

By engaging students from diverse backgrounds, regional communities, and first-in-family households, CU helps build familiarity with learning pathways and confidence in educational settings. Students also begin to build confidence in visiting the campus and familiarity with the staff who are here to assist them (when the time comes!) to pursue university of whatever further education path they desire. Students begin to associate higher education with curiosity, achievement and celebration.
